Norfolk palaeontologist’s century-old finds to feature in new hands-on fossil gallery
The Discovery Gallery at Cromer Museum tells the story of deep time through the work of Cromer geologist and palaeontologist Alfred Savin, who collected fossils more than a century ago along the north Norfolk coast.
Mr Savin, who lived from 1860 to 1948, made his living selling fossils and souvenirs at a shop in Church Street.

But he also played a crucial role in documenting the finds which contribute to the understanding of the prehistoric Ice Age wildlife of Norfolk, and included mammoths, rhinos, giant deer and hyenas.
Two major collections of fossils he found were transferred to the Natural History........
