They joined the likes of ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, actor Idris Elba and comedian Matt Lucas in receiving honours.

These are the Norfolk and Waveney people named on the King's New Year Honours list:

Malcom Metcalf, from Gorleston, is awarded a British Empire Medal for his fundraising for charities.

Mr Metcalf, nicknamed the 'Michael Palin of Gorleston' because of his travels around the globe, has been raising money for hospices for years.

He caught the travelling bug when he was 19 and bed bound with a serious illness, but vowed to travel when he got better - using his journeys to raise money for the East Coast Hospice.

Now 92, one of Mr Metcalf's most recent fundraisers saw him set himself a target to raise £10,000 for the Priscilla Bacon Lodge in Norwich by completing 90 challenges before his 90th birthday.

His challenges included flying a plane, taking a ride in a Formula One car and editing the Eastern Daily Press.

He also travelled the length and breadth of England in one month on his bus pass when he was 82.

Victor Dade (Image: Chris Bishop)

Long-serving lifeboatman Victor Dade is made an MBE and revealed he will need to buy a suit for when he collects his gong.

Mr Dade, 64, joined the crew at Hunstanton RNLI in 1979, when the station re-opened with a D-Class inshore lifeboat after being mothballed in the 1930s.

He signed up as a tractor driver at the age of 17, soon after starting work as a farm worker at the nearby Le Strange Estate in Old Hunstanton.
