Fury as councillors pull A47 revamp scheme from government programme
Senior Conservatives at Norfolk County Council have been slammed after withdrawing plans for an upgrade of the A47/A17 Pullover roundabout, on the edge of King's Lynn, from the Department for Transport's (DfT) Major Road Network programme.

Why is this happening?
The county council said the decision had been made because it would need to find £5.9m for the project, if the DfT did agree to fund the bulk of the cost.
Officers said County Hall could not commit to as local government reorganisation means it will not exist as of April 2028 - with all eight of Norfolk's councils due to be abolished and replaced.

The council said Norfolk and Suffolk's mayor - due to be elected in May 2028 - is likely to be the one who would decide whether to pursue the scheme after the councils are redrawn.
Officers said withdrawing the scheme now would give it a better chance of securing money in the future.
'The wrong call'
But that decision was panned by a King's Lynn county councillor, who has previously accused the authority of overlooking the west of the county.
