Energy bill rise fears as power companies urged to fund coastal erosion battle
Experts from the region told a House of Commons committee almost 2,000 homes in the two counties could be destroyed by 2105 because of coastal erosion - as they asked for the government to consider making companies based on the coast to help bankroll efforts to assist those people.
They said companies such as National Grid, which stands to benefit from power produced by wind farms and the shareholders of Sizewell C, including energy firms EDF and Centrica, should provide money to support those whose properties are at risk.
But were such a move to happen, it could see the companies increase energy bills further, as shareholders are unlikely to stomach the financial hit........
