Norfolk Labour MPs abstain in protest at chancellor's ‘flawed’ farm tax raid
The plan to scrap inheritance tax relief for farms valued over £1m has provoked fury among farming families who will face a 20pc tax when handing land and assets to the next generation.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has resisted mounting industry pressure for a U-turn - although she did announce a small concession at last month's Budget, allowing the £1m threshold to be transferred between spouses.
The proposals were put before MPs on Tuesday evening in a vote on Resolution 50 of the Finance Bill, which is now making its way through parliament.
Despite last-minute pleas from the farming industry for Labour backbenchers to abstain, the resolution was comfortably passed by 327 votes for to 182 against.
But although only one Labour MP – Markus Campbell-Savours from Penrith and Solway........
