Bird flu prevention zones finally lifted as disease risk level is lowered

The mandatory biosecurity measures were first introduced in December 2024 to halt the spread of avian influenza, which has prompted the culls of hundreds of thousands of birds on farms across East Anglia in recent years.

Defra officials said the Avian Influenza Prevention Zones have been "vital in protecting flocks" from outbreaks.

But they ended at midday on June 4 following the latest veterinary and scientific risk assessment which has shown a reduced risk of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI)........
