Aylsham Show hands out £22,000 to a record number of charities and good causes
The Aylsham Agricultural Show Association (AASA), which stages the August Bank Holiday spectacular at Blickling Park, distributed the lion’s share of its surplus to 56 group representatives at its annual meeting.
Donations ranging from £250 to £1,500 were made to recipients including sports clubs, youth groups, medical and care charities, and a host of community initiatives.
Retiring show president Nigel Savory, who lives near Fakenham, said it had been a "tremendous honour" to serve the association, which had originally been established in 1946 to raise funds for local good causes including the town’s recreation ground.
Over the past eight decades, the AASA has donated more than £1m to local groups.
