Plans for walkway along Norfolk landmark sunk by broadside from campaigners

West Norfolk Council has withdrawn proposals to add the new feature to the historic Custom House in King's Lynn.

It would have created a new access to the building via an obsolete door which once led down to a wooden jetty via a set of steps.

The rethink follows a furious objection from the town's civic society, whose chair Alison Gifford said: "The Custom House is, with little doubt, the most iconic building in the town and needs very special care and consideration.

"We do not feel that the current proposals achieve that important objective."

Ms Gifford said the society agreed that the building was "underutilised" but said it had operated as a successful tourist........
