Patients given drugs they didn't need after hospital tests delivered false results

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) said mistakes were made between July and December of 2024, after it switched to automated faecal elastase (stool) testing for pancreatic problems.

It has now gone back to manual testing after discovering errors had occurred with 84 patients.

Dr Bernard Brett, Consultant Gastroenterologist and NNUH Medical Director, said: “I’d like to apologise to all patients affected by this testing error.
