Frustrated villagers complain of A47 roadworks 'chaos'

But could Acle be about to earn itself the more unwelcome label of the "gateway to gridlock"?

Some locals fear that the dualing of the A47, which might not be completed until the spring of 2027, will change the face of the quaint village forever.

Acle sits at the centre of major dualling works and also the installation of a new 50mph limit along the Acle Straight to Great Yarmouth.

And in the meantime, some people are complaining that the road works, which have seen a lane closed and a 40-mph speed limit monitored by average cameras initiated between Acle and Blofield, have doubled journey times.

Susan Evans has lived in Acle for two years, and she had to leave her home for an appointment at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital one hour and 20 minutes early to avoid missing it.
