Florists blooming furious after being ordered to remove flower display for cycle path

But this much-loved tradition looks like it will soon be nipped in the bud after officials told them the kaleidoscopic rows of flowers would have to go to make way for a new cycle path.

They are installing a new bicycle lane past the front of the shop on Middleton Road, Gorleston, which will also see the loss of temporary parking bays which are used by customers.

Dawn Howell, whose family have owned the florists for 56 years, has been told that the new cycle path will not leave enough room on the pavement for the floristry display and that it will have to be removed.

She said scheme was "ludicrous" and would threaten the business.

"People like seeing the flowers on show. We have always done it, so it is heartbreaking that we may not be able to do so if this goes ahead," she said.
