Dozens 'trapped' in their homes as sewage floods paths in quiet cul-de-sac

Around a dozen homes in The Laurels in Hopton were affected after a pipe burst last Friday and caused foul water to flood pavements.

It prevented people from leaving their homes in the coastal village between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Andrew Brown, 62, is a retired prison officer and facilities manager who looks after his disabled wife, Denise, who relies on a mobility scooter to get around.

They spent the weekend indoors "feeling trapped" and scared that the contaminated water might eventually enter their home and their neighbours' properties.
