Exploring Sunshine Coast

Part of an ongoing series about the best trails to explore, city by city, region by region, in Southern B.C.

The Sunshine Coast isn't always sunny but it always has West Coast charm, and panoramic views from its limited number of hiking and biking trails.

During a quick visit with long-time friends, Constant Companion Carmen checked out the forested trails on the slopes above the town of less than 5,000 - many of them seniors.

The Bike Sheriff e-biked over to the Visitor Centre at 494 South Fletcher Rd., open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through August where Mary provided a printed copy of South Sunshine Coast Hiking Trails. Only four hikes are listed for Gibson: Gibson Seawall, Soames Hill, Langdale Falls and Mt. Elphinstone Summit Trail.

The printed Welcome to Gibsons map showed their location but was also useful to write down her personal recommendations. Mary thought Gibsons Seawall was bikeable but signs specified "just pedestrians."

It's a paved walkway with views of Gibsons Marina, Gibsons Harbour, Keats Island and North Shore Mountains. It also goes past Molly's Reach, the fictional restaurant seen during 19 years of the Canadian TV series, The Beachcombers.
