Opinion: Council should take a hard pass on new water efficiency plan

The latest version of the city’s water efficiency plan dropped recently to barely any reporting and no analysis. However, be assured, the steady bureaucratic march is alive and well.

The executive summary quickly defers to “climate change” as the source of our water problems. The authors seem not to have noticed that the “end is nigh” narrative of global warming is in disrepute, largely due to decades of poor predictions and costly and fruitless policies.

This ideological and political failure will continue with ever-weakening attempts to mitigate higher carbon dioxide levels. Instead, look to more adaptation to weather-related abnormalities. In Calgary, think of the Springbank dry dam and the major flood barriers on the Bow River. It’s important to note that these solve the problems of too much water.

Next is the canard “Calgary is a big city on two small rivers.” A great buzz-phrase, but unfortunately it misrepresents our water supply........
