“I don’t miss him because he was a loser. I’m a winner now.”

Newly-elected Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas laughs at the line. It is quite the line.

I asked the question.

After half an hour of asking questions I didn’t have the answer to this one question.

Does Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas miss the old butt-kicking, pull-no-punches, take-no-prisoners Coun. Jeromy Farkas?

Some of you remember Farkas the councillor. Some of you voted for him four years ago when he made his first run for mayor.

The firebrand councillor who pushed hard against those on city council he felt were taking Calgarians down the wrong track under the leadership of former mayor and now NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi.

The councillor who crossed swords with Nenshi and challenged the city hall higher-ups with their arrogance and their self-entitlement and sometimes their outright contempt for Calgary taxpayers.

The councillor who fought against the secrecy around the Calgary Winter Olympic bid.

Calgarians voted No to the bid.

The councillor who stood up for what he believed was right even when not one other member of council stood up with him. In fact, a few of them hated his guts.

And I cannot forget the councillor sitting alone at city hall just before a Christmas past after city council would not even discuss his plan for helping out residents of the city-owned Midfield Mobile Home........
