Trump envoy reveals Putin’s ceasefire concerns in Ukraine peace talks
In a significant diplomatic development, US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, has disclosed details of his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, revealing Moscow’s concerns over a potential ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict. Speaking in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson on March 21, Witkoff emphasized the complexities of negotiating a truce and the conditions Russia considers essential for lasting peace.
During the interview, Witkoff explained that Putin expressed doubts about Ukraine’s willingness to adhere to a ceasefire agreement. The Russian leader reportedly raised concerns that Kiev might violate any truce reached, based on previous instances of sabotage and broken agreements.
Witkoff’s meeting with Putin took place on March 13 in Moscow as part of Trump’s diplomatic efforts to broker an end to the war. According to the envoy, the Russian leadership is not opposed to a ceasefire but is wary of its implementation.
