Russian woman in FBI harassment case ordered to undergo psychological evaluation

A Russian national with alleged ties to Moscow’s intelligence services has been ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation following what prosecutors describe as a pattern of harassment targeting FBI agents involved in her case. The unusual development comes as the legal battle against 34-year-old Nomma Zarubina continues to expand, intertwining elements of alleged espionage, sex trafficking, and politically charged conspiracy claims.

Judge Laura Taylor Swain of the Southern District of New York issued the ruling on July 31, granting Zarubina’s continued pre-trial release on the condition that she participate in court-ordered psychological treatment. The decision follows a detailed 10-page filing from US prosecutors outlining a string of texts and messages that they say crossed the line from emotional outbursts to sustained harassment.

According to prosecutors, Zarubina’s communications with at least one FBI agent-identified in filings only as “Case Agent 1”-included threats, conspiratorial accusations, and declarations that blurred the line between personal attachment and intimidation.

In one message, she wrote:

“And I will text you every fucking day because when you need me, I answered you in the same day. Because I loved you and respected you.”

In another, she claimed she was being monitored by Russian officials:

“I am under surveillance by Russians by consulate. Call me. I can provide the picture. They watch me… I need you. They fuck my brain.”
