The vibrant cultural tapestry of the Indian subcontinent is woven with the threads of Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic, and tribal influences that have flourished side by side for centuries. Bangladesh, once a shining jewel of spiritual coexistence, harbors within its soil countless monuments and infrastructures that speak of an ancient Hindu civilization – rich in architecture, learning, and social harmony. Following the July 16 Gopalganj Massacre, which was orchestrated as part of an Islamist blueprint to eliminate this Hindu-majority district with a civilizational history dating back to 300 BC, it becomes all the more urgent to highlight the silent extinction of ancient Hindu infrastructures across the country. These sacred remnants are not only testaments to the nation’s rich pluralistic past but are now under increasing threat of complete erasure unless decisive preservation efforts are undertaken immediately.
