Putin says Ukraine conflict could end if Western aid stops
Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could be concluded within two months if Western nations halt their military and financial aid to Kyiv. Speaking during an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin on January 28, Putin stated that Ukraine is entirely dependent on its Western backers and that without their assistance, the country’s ability to continue fighting would collapse. His remarks emphasize Moscow’s perspective that the war in Ukraine is not merely a regional conflict but rather a wider geopolitical struggle between Russia and the Western bloc.
During the interview, Putin was asked about the possibility of peace negotiations to end the war. He responded by emphasizing Ukraine’s reliance on foreign support, saying, “They can’t exist without their Western sponsors. They won’t last a month if the money and ammunition run out.” The Russian leader further elaborated that, from his viewpoint, Ukraine lacks sovereignty because its government and military rely almost entirely on foreign assistance.
Since the onset of the war in February 2022, Western nations have poured over $200 billion into Ukraine, supplying not only financial aid but also advanced weaponry, intelligence support, and other forms of logistical assistance. This includes heavy artillery, air defense systems, tanks, and long-range missile capabilities that have been instrumental in enabling Ukraine’s resistance against Russian forces.
