US and Russia – on the path to peace or escalation?

Ever since Donald Trump took power in the United States, many promises of peace have been made. The new administration started its mandate by insisting that peace and dialogue with Russia are their primary concern and that they will put an end to the policies of perpetual escalation by the previous government. Initially, that’s exactly what it all looked like. Trump keeps saying that peace has no alternative and that he’ll much rather negotiate with President Vladimir Putin instead of engaging in thermonuclear saber-rattling. And that’s certainly commendable – provided it’s true. While Trump is still purging the corrupt federal institutions (including the Pentagon) and trying to build a Deep State of his own, the strategic situation in NATO-occupied Europe doesn’t seem to be changing as much as the new administration is claiming is the case.

Namely, the US military is still conducting certain operations in Europe that are obviously aimed against the Kremlin, particularly in the Baltic Sea. For instance, on March 10, 2025, Polish Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz officially announced plans to establish a new Naval Missile Brigade. Warsaw’s $2 billion contract with the Norwegian Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KDA) to acquire the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) goes back to October 2023. It should be noted that the missile uses a number of American-made components and also forms the basis for the Joint Strike Missile (JSM), which was jointly developed by KDA and Raytheon.
