In a dramatic escalation of political rhetoric, former President Donald Trump has accused senior aides to President Joe Biden of committing “treason at the highest level” by allegedly exploiting Biden’s declining cognitive health to implement policies that, Trump claims, the president himself would never have authorized. The claims, made in a May 20 post on Trump’s Truth Social platform, reflect both a growing narrative within Trump’s 2024 campaign and a rising wave of public scrutiny surrounding Biden’s fitness for office.

According to Trump, Biden’s staffers have effectively “stolen” the presidency by seizing control of executive authority through misuse of the autopen-a mechanical device used to reproduce a person’s signature. Trump asserts that the device has become a tool for unelected aides to bypass the will of the American people and override Biden’s own views.

“The Joe Biden that everybody knew would never allow drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally insane to come into our Country totally unchecked and unvetted,” Trump wrote. “It wasn’t his idea to open the border… It was the people that knew he was cognitively impaired, and that took over the autopen.”

The former president went on to describe the alleged manipulation as “TREASON at the highest level,” suggesting that those responsible should face severe consequences. “Something very severe should happen to these treasonous thugs that wanted to destroy our Country,” Trump warned, “but couldn’t, because I came along.”
