Russia celebrates 80th anniversary of Victory Day with grand reception in Dhaka
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh hosted a grand reception at Le Méridien Dhaka on May 11, Saturday evening to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, a milestone that continues to carry profound significance for Russia and the broader global community.
The event, held with solemn pride and festive grandeur, was attended by high-ranking Bangladeshi officials, distinguished members of the diplomatic corps, influential business leaders, and media representatives. It served not only as a commemoration of a pivotal moment in world history but also as a reminder of the historical bonds of friendship between Russia and Bangladesh.
In his welcoming address, H.E. Mr. Alexander Mantytskiy Khozin, Ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh, emphasized the critical role played by the Soviet Union in achieving victory over Nazi Germany. Reflecting on the enormous sacrifices made by the Soviet people, he stated, “The USSR bore the brunt of the struggle against fascism, and the triumph of May 9, 1945, came at a tremendous cost. We lost over 27 million lives – a sacrifice that must never be forgotten.”
Ambassador Khozin also cautioned against ongoing attempts in some parts of the world to distort the historical facts........
