Half of Canadians worry about outliving savings in retirement: survey

While one in four Canadian employees say they expect personal savings to be a primary source of retirement income, only 15 per cent of retirees say they actually use it as a primary source of retirement income, according to a new survey by the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology pension plan.

The survey, which polled more than 3,300 Canadians, found retirees were far more likely to rely on public programs and workplace pensions than personal savings. Indeed, 58 per cent said they primarily rely on Canada/Quebec Pension Plan and old-age security benefits, while 23 per cent said their workplace pension is their primary source of income.
