Lining up for an affordable truck

Cars are too complicated.

My husband recently traded in his beloved Mini Cooper Clubman. First, a new battery set him back $675--and it had to be synched to the Internet. Then, when he cracked a tail light, the replacement was quoted at $600 with a months-long wait for it to ship from Germany (before tariffs).

My 2020 Hyundai Veloster isn't exactly a space shuttle, but it still has features I've never figured out.

Just the other day, I realized my lane departure warning wasn't yelping when I drifted toward the center line. I knew better than to try fixing it mid-drive: that would mean taking my eyes off the road, fumbling through menus to re-engage the system, making a few wrong stabs at buttons, and finally swerving--ironically--just far enough into the next lane to see if I'd managed to turn the warning back on.

This is complicated by the fact that my car has a manual transmission. Shifting gears is second nature, but I still have to keep track of what gear I'm in while watching the road, which is more than enough to manage without a dashboard full of distractions.
