Not Democrats' fault

Ryan Norris wrote a guest column in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. In it, he calls the shutdown the "Schumer shutdown" and blames Democrats for it.

I love the way Republicans blame Democrats for anything they don't like while producing a federal budget with absolutely no input from Democrats and then expect them to approve it while taking away medical benefits for millions of Americas. They blame this on non-citizens using medical-care money and blowing up the budget, which is not true and has been proven over and over again.

The Democrats are trying to protect the most needy in our society and it seems the Republicans just want them all to die or just go away. I just love the Christian attitude they have, and they want this to be a Christian nationalism country. Learn to love your neighbor first.

Must adapt to reality

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program played a vital role during the covid-19 pandemic. When millions of families faced food insecurities and unemployment spiked to nearly 10 percent, emergency food supplies were an essential lifeline. No sane person can dispute that those measures were warranted in a time of such crisis. Emergency allotments were justified at that time to stabilize families and the broader economy.
