Stop the desecration
Is anyone in our Republican-led Congress disturbed in the slightest by the destruction of the East Wing of the White House, with no authorization from Congress, the White House Usher, the White House Historical Association, the National Park Service, the National Capital Planning Commission, or the citizens of the United States, all of whom have a stake in the property?
The president said about an unapproved and unfunded ballroom, "It won't interfere with the current building. It'll be near it but not touching it ... and pays total respect to the existing building, which I'm the biggest fan of." Then, as the wrecking equipment tore out a façade of the East Wing, "You probably hear the beautiful sound of construction in the back. You hear that sound? That's music to my ears. I think when I hear that sound it reminds me of money. In this case it reminds me of lack of money, because I'm paying for it."
Of course he isn't paying for it. He never pays for anything. You and I will be paying for it. Either our tax dollars will be used, or someone will be buying influence (where we pay indirectly, as we do with all graft).
How do members of Arkansas' delegation maintain self-respect when they see the daily outrages of this administration, yet do nothing? Wasn't gilding the Oval Office and tearing out the Rose Garden enough to make them sick? What's next? Trick up the property with a Hall of Mirrors and a Grand Trianon? An Amber Room? Maybe go big and demolish the building and build a new........
