Fishing with St. Peter

I read with interest Bryan Hendricks' recent Sunday outdoor column. The substance of the column was how artificial intelligence would prognosticate a matchup in a fishing tournament between St. Peter and Kevin VanDam. (Since I don't follow professional bass fishing, I assume that KVD is some sort of big-time bass fisherman.)

First of all, it makes perfect sense for Jesus to minister to fishermen. I don't know any other sport where you could find more liars.

I do think there were some important things that the AI service Bryan was using did not take into consideration. For instance: I would think it would be important to know where this tournament would be held. If it took place on St. Peter's home waters, the sea of Galilee, I would think St. Peter would have a definite local advantage. I understand that the primary target for fishermen in the Sea of Galilee is tilapia. It might be pretty difficult to get a tilapia to hit a Whopper Plopper.

On the other hand, St. Peter might have a tougher time if the tournament was held on Lake Fork.

I understand that the rules of many tournaments require that a contestant be in contact with the boat. That part where St. Peter lost faith and sank instead of walking on water might have cost him some points.

As Jesus said (more or less): "Let he who is without sin cast the first spinner bait."
