Safer neighborhoods
Once again, state Rep. Brit McKenzie, R-Rogers, is trying to pass House Bill 1790, which would allow any home in any neighborhood in the state to be rented nightly to anyone willing to pay. He is framing this as a blow to local government restrictions on property rights.
The property rights HB1790 supports is for the few folks who want to rent out their income investment property nightly. If passed, this bill will take away the property rights of the vast majority of people who have invested their lives, happiness and nest eggs in a safe, predictable neighborhood.
The local government restrictions McKenzie refers to are the thoughtful rules cities, with citizen input, have passed to keep neighborhoods safe and livable.
This bill has already passed from committee and is before the Arkansas House and Senate. Contact your representatives and senators and urge them to protect everyone's property rights, not just those who want to rent out their properties.
If HB1790 passes, we all can expect new strangers and their parties next door, with intimate views of our backyards nightly, which makes our neighborhoods less safe.
