Don’t worry, be happy
Last week was the first in about a decade when I didn't hear or see the name Donald Trump.
This was because we were on vacation in a remote part of Jamaica and both the television and Wi-Fi were spotty at best (we couldn't even see or listen to the Razorback game against Texas Tech).
We stayed at a small hotel atop the rocks on the west coast, about 10 miles from Negril, with stunning courtyards and nothing but luscious greenery and vibrant flowers in sight. It had three small, infinity-style saltwater pools sitting at rocks' edge and a larger pool in the shape of Jamaica, along with a restaurant and bar that also overlooked the water. Sprinkled throughout the grounds were little enclaves with benches, umbrellas and beach chairs.
Although it might have been the quietest and most relaxing place I've stayed, it took a while to adjust to Jamaica's "island time," which seemed even slower than other places in the Caribbean.
The tendency of the American abroad toward impatience was only gradually overcome, as one dinner at the hotel restaurant took nearly two hours, even without appetizers, dessert, or after-dinner drinks.
There were a few other inconveniences, or what appeared to be such at first. Our room had a spacious balcony looking........
