Arizona needs a Stupid Hiker Law to pay for heat rescues
Ah, summertime in the Arizona desert, where the temperature is passing blast furnace and approaching jaws of hell.
What a perfect time to take a hike!
And so it was that a family of 11 took to South Mountain’s Holbert Trail at 10 a.m. on June 29.
Among them were six children, all of whom can be excused for being idiots.
The adults, not so much.
They made it a quarter of the way up the trail — walking past the signs saying the trail was closed due to extreme heat — before getting into trouble and calling for help.
