For most of my life, I’ve kept my faith to myself. After my mother was murdered decades ago, belief became complicated. I still believed in God, but I didn’t know what to do with that belief. I asked questions that had no easy answers. Over time, I learned to carry faith quietly, privately. It became something I rarely spoke about.

When I entered politics, that silence became almost automatic. In public life, it often feels safer to hide belief than to defend it. I worried that being open about faith would invite judgment or be used against me. Looking back, I realize that fear was misplaced.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what happens when people of faith, especially Christians, stay silent. Across the world, we see churches burned, symbols of Christianity vandalized, and people mocked for believing. Here at home, faith is often treated as something outdated or divisive. Some use religion as a political weapon. Others blame all believers for the mistakes of the past. The result is the same—people of faith pull back, speak less, and practice quietly to avoid criticism.
