West Coast Rap Legend Trashes Any Artist Using AI in Their Music: ‘A Total Violation of Culture’

In a time where seemingly every iconic artist loves AI, it’s not often you hear one vehemently against it. Typically, people are always attempting to justify it as a tool or cop to its inevitability. But a West Coast legend like DJ Quik is actually firmly against the medium.

In an interview clip captured by Pigeons & Planes, he called any use of generative AI in music “a total violation of culture.” “It’s appropriation. You can’t recreate somebody that’s still here doing what they do… That computer is not gonna have my nuances. I watch AI programs, and it mispronounces words. It ain’t ready yet. I’d rather have bad human material than good AI material,” DJ Quik said.
