1000 Days of terror in Europe

Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland

Political turbulence of the year 2024 along with slow and anemic defense assistance from partners to Ukraine have provided Russia with a momentum to pull the whole international system further into havoc. North Korea, Iran and other Russia’s proxies are accumulating collective synergy to reshape international system on their wicked terms and bring long-term chaos and unpredictability to everyone on all continents. It is high time now to promote Ukraine’s victory as the only path to the peace based on the UN Charter and multilateral cooperation.

It’s 1000th day of raw and blatant violence. Russia continues to openly use all available means of mass killings to break Ukraine resistance and prove that support for Ukraine is senseless investment. It’s an obvious genocide. Over the last months intensity of attacks has grown dramatically. There were 2,000 drone attacks at civilian targets across Ukraine just in October. In November this number has grown further exponentially. In total, since the beginning of 2024, Russia has launched more than 7000 UAVs attacks on the territory of Ukraine, mostly targeting civilian housing, schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure. Usage of highly devastating thermobaric weapon in Odessa this month against civilians proved that Russia wouldn’t stop until it annihilates Ukraine as independent nation.

So, for over 10 years terrorist-state Russia is trying to erase from the political map the independent peaceful nation of 41 million in the heart of Europe. And, over the last 2,5 years Russia is using nearly all means of destruction for killing up to date almost 13 000 civilians, including almost 600 children, and leaving 26000 civilians wounded. More than 65,000 people were registered as missing and captured. So, my question is whether we have consensus, at least in Europe, that Ukraine should win?

The war has expanded beyond Europe. North Korean soldiers now are the part of Russia’s forces fighting against Ukraine, massive number of Iranian drones are destroying critical infrastructure and killing civilians all over Ukrainian cities and towns, Russia continues to import Western electronic components to produce even more precise missiles, and thousands of oil tankers (“shadow fleet”) are pumping up to USD 12 billions per month into Russia’s war machine maintaining illegal and brutal attack on democracy and basic principles of international co-existence.

Cruel and genocidal attack on human dignity continues. The permanent member of the UN Security Council – Russia – for many........
