Here at USA TODAY Opinion, we like to end each year by looking ahead to the next and pretending we can predict the future. Sometimes we get it right (and sometimes that's a bad thing). Other times our prognostications turn out completely wrong but hey, you can't win 'em all.

We've gathered our columnists for another round of forecasting as we count down to 2026. Read on for our predictions from both sides of the aisle, or share your own with us here. Did we nail it this year? Only time will tell.

As the nation's premiere never-wrong-about-anything columnist, my annual New Year predictions are considered iron-clad. And I'm sure these prognostications for 2026 will be no different.

Here, in no particular order, are things I guarantee will happen:

On July 4, 2026, we will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America and the origin of these words in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The president wants to celebrate. For months, the White House has been planning how to mark this........
