The Army honored me for leading troops under fire. Then Trump banned me.

When I look back at my 14 years of military service, it brings waves of memories and emotions. I remember my father, who served for 36 years in the U.S. Army, inspiring me to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in the military. He was the best and most honorable man I’ve ever known.

I think of my fellow soldiers – those who are still with us and those who have passed – and I’m struck with overwhelming gratitude for the people who have been by my side every step of the way, whether on base or in combat.

I have also spent some quiet moments reflecting on the journey that led me where I am today. Growing up in a military family, I was raised on Army values, and I’ve carried them with me through adulthood, striving to embody loyalty, integrity and personal courage at every turn. I dedicated my days to serving and protecting the country that I love, and it has been the greatest honor of my life.
