Taylor Swift went to a basketball game. Men got threatened.
When Taylor Swift dared to show her face at Madison Square Garden in New York City for Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the backlash could not have been more predictable.
During a broadcast with "The Dan Le Batard Show," "The Simpsons" voice actor Hank Azaria expressed frustration over the singer existing in his presence, saying: “I know she’s the hugest thing in the world, but we had to sit with her all through the NFL and now she’s at the Garden. Come on.”
Swift and her friends occupied four courtside seats, which Azaria called "ridiculous."
I mean, yikes! Azaria had to literally sit in the same arena as Swift during a history-making basketball game? I can’t think of anything more offensive than having to share space with a woman daring to enjoy herself in public.
While a generous interpretation of Azaria's diatribe could be that he was reacting to the hyper-exposure Swift receives as a beloved global celebrity, it's hard to imagine a popular male celebrity's presence at a sporting event receiving similar – or even any – condemnation.
There's subtext lurking under Taylor Swift hate
I cannot say that I'm a Swiftie. I've never........
