Editorial: Ulster town supervisor owes voters an explanation for his departure

James Quigley is the Republican candidate for Ulster County executive and current Ulster town supervisor. His campaign mistakenly sent a misleading email about absentee ballots last week to 18,000 voters in Ulster County.

On Election Day last week, Ulster Town Supervisor James Quigley III won reelection, but whatever joy he may have taken from the victory was apparently short-lived. Two days later, Mr. Quigley announced his resignation.

Mr. Quigley has not provided voters with an explanation for why the move came so shortly after he ran unopposed for the office, and we hope the longtime supervisor wasn't forced into his decision by a medical or personal emergency. If that's the case, he should say so.

Without an explanation, we can only conclude that Mr. Quigley, who has held the position since 2009, has done residents in the town near........
