Editorial: The price of hubris

A few weeks ago, this editorial board roasted members of the state Legislature who were gnashing their teeth over limits placed on their outside income. Their continuing maneuvers have earned them a second trip across the coals.
The backstory: A law signed in 2022 limits legislators’ outside income to $35,000 a year. It was supposed to have gone into effect in January, but some Republican lawmakers challenged it in court, last year winning an order to put it on pause until a final decision came in – which it did last month, when a state Supreme Court judge ruled the income limit was constitutional.

So they’ve appealed, and they've won a stay that will keep the law on pause till appeals are exhausted. And if that doesn’t work,........
