Editorial: The EPA's dangerous ignorance

The sun revolves around the Earth. The Earth is flat. Dinosaurs and people once coexisted. Some ignorance is so profoundly obvious that the only worthwhile response is a bemused chuckle.

But the Trump administration’s denial that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are dangerous is no laughing matter, especially for the future generations that stand to be harmed by this act of willful ignorance.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin last week signaled that his agency intends to repeal the “endangerment finding” that the production of greenhouse gases threatens public health and welfare. Since 2009, the finding has been the legal underpinning of laws to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and try to mitigate global warming and human-influenced climate change.
