Michael Snyder Sr. was arraigned in April 2019 on two felonies, third-degree rape and criminal sex act (the legal term for sodomy), as well as misdemeanor charges of sexual abuse — all related to his position as a correction officer at Albany County's jail. He pleaded not guilty and was suspended without pay.
The case was dismissed a year later by state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Breslin — not because of a lack of evidence, but because the Albany County district attorney's office had bungled its obligation to follow "speedy trial" rules.
