Editorial: Peace in Gaza? We’ll see.

News that a ceasefire in the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas may be at hand is certainly welcome. But it’s critical that President Donald J. Trump, by putting himself squarely in the middle of this deal, understands that it is not just his credibility on the line, but America’s.
This cannot be just one more performative, headline-grabbing act. Nor can Mr. Trump let himself be manipulated any longer by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who so transparently pandered to his vanity by nominating him for a Nobel Peace Prize even as these negotiations were ongoing, and on the heels of the U.S. bombing of Iran to support Israel’s earlier bombardments.
