Editorial: Ms. Rosa’s big raise
Commissioner of Education Betty Rosa attends a meeting of the Board of Regents on June 10, 2024, at the State Education Building in Albany.
We’re not saying that state Education Commissioner Betty Rosa doesn’t have some reasons for why she needed a raise that, on its own, is bigger than the average New York household’s median income. It’s just that none of her reasons are convincing. And some of them are downright insulting.
Ms. Rosa has received $155,000 in raises since September, bringing her salary to $489,000 annually. That’s nearly seven times what the average New York family lives on. But it’s Ms. Rosa’s arguments for why her previous salary of a mere $334,000 was insufficient that grate like nails on a blackboard.
