It was a suitable question if the person asking it was a standup comedian or a bar patron two stools over, but a deeply strange one coming from the nation’s commander in chief, who presumably has access to the work product of a vast international intelligence-gathering system. Shouldn’t the president know what’s up with a cross-border incursion against our ostensible ally, especially when that nation's leader had been in the Oval Office just a few days earlier?
