Commentary: PPL is the solution to New York state's home care problem

There’s nothing more reckless than exploiting a vulnerable population for political or personal gain. But that’s exactly what some entities are doing in the debate over New York’s Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program.
Let’s be clear: Public Partnerships LLC, the state’s newly appointed single fiscal intermediary for CDPAP, did not create the problems that have plagued CDPAP for years. We were brought in to fix them.

And we’re doing just that. To date, we’ve processed more than $1.8 billion in payroll for over 230,000 personal assistants, who provide care, compassion and support to over 200,000 consumers who have completed registration and remain actively involved in CDPAP. This year, we will save taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars in administrative fees alone. In a survey of more than 52,000 consumers and caregivers, PPL received high satisfaction ratings — over 4 out of 5 stars.
