The WNBA season tips off Friday. Caitlin Clark and the Fever start play this weekend.

Kelsey Plum is in a Los Angeles Sparks uniform. Brittney Griner is playing for the Atlanta Dream. DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard and Sophie Cunningham are joining Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston on the Indiana Fever.

It’s tough to keep up with all the roster and league changes as the WNBA’s 2025 season tips off Friday.

Popular players have been cut, including former Harvard star Harmoni Turner, Maryland’s Shyanne Sellers, UConn guard Kaitlin Chen and Stanford grad Haley Jones. Even some league veterans are gone, like Laeticia Amihere and Queen Egbo, paving the way for new stars to shine; I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if both of those veterans wind up back in the W later this season.

The Golden State Valkyries, the league’s first expansion team since 2008, is one of six squads kicking off the season on the first day. The expansion will continue in 2026 with Toronto and Portland joining to give the WNBA 15 teams.
