Her 20-year professional career also was messy. She was arrested for driving under the influence, served jail time and was suspended by the WNBA, all during an MVP and league championship season. Spending the WNBA offseason overseas in Russia put her in incredibly dangerous situations. While playing in Turkey she faced allegations of doping, which later were dropped. In 2024 in Paris, the decision by coaches to keep her on the bench in the gold medal game proved to be a disappointing end to a glorious Olympic career.
All these situations and her family life are detailed in the three-part docuseries “Taurasi” which premiered on Prime Video this month. We learn about the player, the wife, the mother and the daughter through interviews with her parents, her sister, her wife Penny Taylor, her WNBA bosses, journalists and, most importantly, Taurasi herself.
One of the key ingredients to the success of the documentary is Niskayuna native Kate Fagan, who is an executive producer of the docuseries.
