Commentary: New York conservatives shouldn’t hit the brakes on electric school buses

Some of my fellow New York conservative thought leaders are falling into a trap by reflexively trying to prevent school districts from making their own decisions on whether to purchase electric school buses. Conservatives, who properly reject the state’s mandate requiring them, are now trying to prevent districts who prefer them from being allowed to buy them at all.
No question: The statewide mandate that all school districts use electric school buses by 2035 is bad policy, especially in a state as geographically, demographically and fiscally diverse as New York. But so too would be a statewide mandate for diesel buses. We should embrace the promise of the........
