Commentary: Housing vouchers critical to reduce childhood poverty

There are over 700,000 children living in poverty in New York. That’s enough to fill Yankee Stadium more than 15 times over. It’s a figure that allows New York to claim one of the worst child poverty rates in the nation — a position that in 2021 pushed Gov. Kathy Hochul to create the Childhood Poverty Reduction Advisory Council, a promising step in the right direction.
In December, the council recommended a slate of proposals with the potential to significantly reduce childhood poverty.
