Vancouver Island needs much better access north to south.

There is immense resistance to both the Malahat improvement via Goldstream and to the Salt Spring Island solution.

Isn’t it obvious which of these is a 100-year solution?

The 1.5-kilometre stretch of highway through Goldstream Park is a nice getaway from the regular part of the highway, which is more like a racetrack with many poor drivers who drive at excessive speeds.

The stretch of highway through Goldstream has one lane each way, which accommodates the endless string of drivers. It does quite well. Cars are through this short distance fairly quickly, then the racetrack-like atmosphere begins again.

There is a plan in the works to widen this roadway, to make it safer, because there have been accidents on this stretch of road.
