Comment: Victoria's changing its streets to the detriment of businesses
A commentary by a Sidney resident.
After living in Victoria, my wife and I moved to Sidney 25 years ago. We drive to Victoria fairly regularly to visit with friends and pick up items not available on the Peninsula.
This past weekend we drove in to greet friends arriving at the Inner Harbour by boat. Knowing that street parking in the downtown core is virtually non-existent in the summer, my plan was to get to the Broughton Street parkade and stroll along Government Street to the causeway.
Driving the length of Blanshard we admired the recent improvements south of Pandora, the fresh pavement and planted centre divider. We lamented the loss of available street parking with the implementation of the cycling lane divider.
Traffic was heavy as we approached Fort Street in the curb lane, intending to turn right onto Broughton one block ahead. The traffic light was red at Broughton, and I pulled to a stop behind a dark colored........
